UC Riverside's Phil Martin has earned the StatSheet Big West Player of the Week for the week ending January 30th. StatSheet's Big West Freshman of the Week is UC-Santa Barbara's Alan Williams.
Martin was the Big West leader in scoring (25.0 pts per game). He also put up respectable numbers with 60% shooting, 7.5 rebounds per game, and 3 three pointers per game. The UC Riverside senior played well in unfortunate losses to Long Beach State and UC Irvine.
Martin led the Highlanders in scoring with 31 points and added 7 rebounds in a 77-70 loss to Long Beach State. He then led all scoring and rebounding with a 19 point and 8 rebound performance in a 65-57 loss to UC Irvine.
This is a familiar honor for Phil Martin, who has been selected StatSheet Big West Player of the Week three times. The runner-up this week is Omondi Amoke, a senior from Cal State Fullerton. Honorable mention goes to Jaime Serna, a senior from UC-Santa Barbara. Lorenzo McCloud, who finished 10th, was the highest ranking player from Pacific.

Alan Williams averaged 22 minutes of playing time as a starter for UC-Santa Barbara. His average in rebounding (10.5 per game) led all Big West freshmen. In an 86-59 waxing of UC Davis, Williams topped the Gauchos in rebounding with 12 and tossed in 5 blocked shots. Then in a thin 56-53 win against Pacific, he dialed up 4 points and 9 rebounds.
This is the second StatSheet Big West Freshman of the Week award for Alan Williams. The runner-up is Stephan Hicks from Cal State Northridge. Honorable mention goes to Will Davis II from UC Irvine. Pacific has yet to win StatSheet Big West Player of the Week.
